Located between Greece and Serbia & Montenegro in the Southeastern Europe, and bordering with the Adriatic Sea and Ionian Sea, Albania is presently undergoing an intensive macroeconomic restructuring regime with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.
Albania is considered to be a Lower Middle Income Country, and one of the poorest nations of Europe, with a per capita income of about $3,500 in the year 2008. About 60% of all workers are employed in the agricultural sector, although the construction and service industries have been expanding fast recently. The GDP of Albania consists of agriculture (about 24%), industry (about 13%), service sector (approx.39%), transport & communication (about12%), construction (about 11%), and remittances from Albanian workers abroad--mostly in Greece and Italy (about 13%). The main industries of Albania are food processing, chemicals, mining, oil, cement, lumber, textiles and clothing.
