Located on the east of Turkey in the Southwestern Asia, Armenia is the first country to formally adopt Christianity in the early 4th century. Today, after the implosion of the USSR in December 1991, Armenia has developed small-scale agricultural units, rather than the large agro-industrial complexes of the Soviet era. But, its agriculture sector requires long-term requirements for investments and the use of the latest upgraded technology. Privatization of industries is in process.
Armenia is a food importer, its agriculture sector mainly produces grapes and vegetables. Because of scant availability of mineral deposits, the main industries of Armenia are diamond-processing, metal-cutting machine tools, forging-pressing machines, electric motors, tires, knitted wear, hosiery, shoes, silk fabric, chemicals, trucks, instruments, microelectronics, jewelry manufacturing, software development, food processing, brandy, etc. While its export commodities are diamonds, mineral products, foodstuffs, and energy.
