Situated between the countries of Burma and India in the South Asia, and bordering the Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh came into existence in the year 1971 when Bengali East Pakistan seceded from its union with West Pakistan.

In spite of sustained domestic and international efforts to improve its economic and demographic prospects, Bangladesh remains a poor, overpopulated, and ill-governed country of Asia. Although about half of the GDP of Bangladesh is generated through the service sector, approximately two-thirds of Bangladeshis are employed in the agriculture sector, with rice as the single most important product.

The agriculture produces rice, jute, tea, wheat, sugarcane, potatoes, tobacco, pulses, oilseeds, spices, fruit, beef, milk, poultry, etc. While its major industries are cotton textiles, jute, garments, tea processing, paper newsprint, cement, chemical fertilizer, light engineering, and sugar. Bangladesh is engaged in the export of commodities like garments, jute and jute goods, leather, frozen fish and seafood.
