Burkina Faso is a landlocked country sharing its borders with six countries. Burkina Faso is one of the poorest countries of the world with a per capita GDP of mere $440. It is located between the Sahara Desert and the Gulf of Guinea. More than 80% of its population is dependent upon agriculture for sustenance, and remaining are involved in other industry and services. Cotton is Burkina Faso's largest export. Burkina is constantly attempting to improve its economy by developing its mineral resources (manganese, gold, limestone, marble, phosphate, etc.), improving its infrastructure, making its agricultural and livestock sectors more productive, profitable, and competitive, and stabilizing the supplies and prices of food grains. Its agriculture sector contributing about 40% to its GDP, produces cotton, millet, sorghum, rice, livestock, peanuts, shea nuts, maize,etc.; millet, sorghum, maize, and rice, being its staple crops. Its Industrial sector accounts for about 20% of its GDP, the main industries being mining, agricultural processing plants, brewing and bottling, and various other light industries.
