Egypt has been the cultural and informational center of the Arab world since time immemorial, and Cairo is the largest publishing and broadcasting center of the region. Egypt is located between the countries of Libya and the Gaza Strip, and bordering with the Mediterranean Sea, in the Northern Africa.

Egypt controls the Sinai Peninsula and the Suez Canal; the former is the only land bridge between the Africa and the remainder of Eastern Hemisphere, while the later is a prominent link between the Indian Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. The economy of Egypt is heavily dependent on the tourism, oil & gas sectors, the Suez Canal revenues, much of which is controlled by the public sector.

About one-third of Egyptian labor is involved directly in farming, and in the processing or trading of various agricultural products. Apart from the agricultural capacity of the Nile Valley and Delta, the natural resources of Egypt include petroleum, natural gas, phosphates, and iron ore.

The economy of Egypt is still hampered by government intervention, substantial subsidies for food, housing, and energy, and bloated public sector payrolls. Most of the heavy industries of Egypt are still under the public sector.
