Comprising of over 200 islands, Hong Kong is located in the Eastern Asia, and bordering the South China Sea and China. Pursuant to an agreement signed by the China and the UK on 19 December 1984, Hong Kong became the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China on the1st July 1997.
According to this agreement, China has promised that, under its "one country, two systems" formula, China will not impose its socialist economic system on Hong Kong, and also that Hong Kong will enjoy a high degree of autonomy in all matters except the foreign and defense affairs, for the next 50 years to come. Hong Kong's free market economy is highly dependent on the international trades. However, its per capita GDP is among the four big economies of the Western Europe. Its natural resources are limited, and food and various raw materials must be imported.
Hong Kong has well-established trades with China, and comprehensive trading support, specially in connection with its re-export business from China. It may be noted that Hong Kong's re-export business from China is a major driver of the growth of Hong Kong.
