The location of Sweden is strategic along the Danish Straits linking Baltic and North Seas, in the Northern Europe. Sweden is located between the countries of Finland and Norway. Supported by peace and neutrality for the whole 20th century, Sweden has achieved an enviable standard of living, under a mixed economic system of high-tech capitalism and extensive welfare benefits.
Sweden has a modern and sophisticated distribution system, excellent internal & external communications, and huge skilled labor force. Timber, hydro-power, and iron ore constitute the resource base of the economy of Sweden which is heavily oriented towards the foreign trade. Privately owned firms of Sweden account for as much as 90% of its total industrial output, of which the engineering sector alone accounts for almost 50% of the output and exports. The agriculture sector accounts for only 2% of its GDP, and provides 2% of jobs to its workforce. The Swedish central bank is focusing on the stability of price with its inflation target of 2%. Its economic growth remained sluggish in the year 2003.
